Announced during the press conference Thrusday 26^th the Official Selection of the 2012 Venice Film Festival, the first edition to be directed by Alberto Barbera after Marco Muller decision to take on Rome Film Festival. An extremely light program that not surpasses 60 titles and that, according to Barbera, "schedules established authors, many Europeans, but also lesser-known, young and stranger filmmakers from distant countries with no film industries." The opening film will be The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mira Nair, whilst L'homme qui rit by Jean-Pierre Amèris with Gerard Depardieu will close the festival. Out of the stars that have been announced: Ben Affleck, Pierce Bronsan, Isabelle Huppert, Wynona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, James Franco, Nick Nolte, Toni Servillo, Zac Efron, Dennis Quaid, Naomi Rapace, Selena Gomez, Javier Bardem, John Malkovich, Shia LaBeouf and Stanley Tucci, Michael Shannon, Gerard Depardieu and Kristin Scott Thomas.
